[[ | 《投降书》文件原本共有2份，分别由美国和日本保存。这两份文件有不同之处：加拿大代表科斯格雷夫在日方副本上签名时，没有写到自己的空位，而是写在了下面一行法国代表的空位上；科斯格雷夫有一只眼睛失明，这可能是造成失误的原因。当轮到勒克莱尔签名时，只能将错就错，把名字继续顺延一行。荷兰代表赫尔弗里奇将这个错误告诉了最后检查文本的美国陆军中将理查德·萨瑟兰（Richard K. Sutherland），但也只能继续顺延，在最后一行签名，而新西兰代表伊西特只能将自己的名字写在最末尾的空白处。签字完毕后，萨瑟兰用笔划掉了从“法兰西共和国临时政府代表”一行起的印刷文字，重新手写更改了正确的对应身份文字，并在末尾空白处补上了“新西兰自治领代表”一行。日方一开始并不接受这种改动，但按照规矩两份副本应同时签署，萨瑟兰在每个更改处前面又补上了自己名字缩写“RKS”以示更改人，日方这才作罢。与之相对，美方副本则没有错误。 | ||
